What is the Polished Concrete Floor?

Polished Concrete Floor is a multi-step grinding and polishing process to achieve a smooth flooring finish. This process involves grinding, honing, and polishing the existing concrete to cut its surface while applying a concrete hardener densifier and sealers to improve the durability of the polished concrete floor.

The polishing process includes multiple passes of a diamond pad of progressively finer diamond grits so that the concrete becomes ultra smooth for a professional appearance. Essentially, the higher grit number used, the smoother and shiner the concrete becomes. Glossy polished concrete requires a minimum of 400 grit, with the option to further smooth and high glossy finish using 800, 1500, or 3000 grits. During the process of polishing concrete, the flooring also becomes slightly leveled as the floor gets ground at finer grits. This process removes small grooves and impurities to help with the overall condition of the concrete as well. Once the concrete has been smoothed to satisfaction, a sealant is applied to help protect the concrete and to give it final luster.

On the concrete floor a variety of cosmetic processes can be added to achieve a modern floor appearance. One of the options involves staining the concrete to add a certain color tone to the flooring. This can be used to create a cohesive look throughout the entire establishment with unique color schemes. The color staining method can also be used with stencils made specifically for concrete to add custom company logos, names, medallions and designs. Adding a logo to the flooring can help establish a brand image. There are many possibilities of customizing the concrete floor in conjunction with the decorative concepts and color staining to make the concrete floor look like a modern art piece.
