What we walked into
Tile across the whole floor, some of it already lifted, the rest still bedded down hard. Underneath, a slab that had been cut and patched more than once. Temporary shoring posts were standing in the middle of the room while other trades worked overhead, and they could not come out for us.
What we did
Took the tile off and ground the adhesive back, then repaired the slab where the old cuts and patches had left it uneven. A pale pearl metallic epoxy went down over the top, poured and worked so the movement in the pigment reads as soft cloud rather than pattern.
What made it difficult
The shoring posts. You cannot pour a seamless metallic floor around obstructions and pretend they were not there, so those areas were left, coated after the posts came out, and blended into the surrounding pour. Metallic is the least forgiving finish to blend, because any difference in how it was worked shows in the movement.
The result
A single continuous floor with no grout lines and nothing standing proud of it. The gloss is high enough that the ceiling reads in the surface.
