What we walked into
An 1,800 square foot courtyard at a multi-unit residence in West Los Angeles, with brick planters through it and mature planting on both sides. The concrete was clean but grey and cold against the brick.
What the client needed
A shared outdoor space that looked deliberate, in a building where every resident sees the floor every day.
What we did
We worked the stain in a grey rather than the browns people expect from stained concrete, so it sat with the brick instead of fighting it. Cut in around the planters by hand, then sealed.
What made it difficult
Five days on 1,800 sqft is longer than a driveway of the same size. Dealing with residents access and the coating drying time was the most chalenge process on this job.
The result
A courtyard floor that reads as a finished surface rather than paving. The grey holds against the brick and the planting, and it is sealed against everything an outdoor shared space takes.
