What we walked into
A retail fit out part way through, with the counters going in, floor boxes still open and the teal and purple wall colours already up. The slab underneath was bare and had been cut into for services in several places.
What we did
Ground and repaired the slab, then poured two metallics. A pale cream through the customer area to keep it bright, and a dark charcoal through the service side and the back corridor where spills happen. Black cove base throughout to tie the two together.
What made it difficult
The join. Two metallic colours meeting in a doorway have to be poured wet against each other or masked and poured in sequence, and either way the line has to land exactly where the architect drew it. There is no moving it afterwards.
The result
A floor that does two jobs. Bright where customers stand, dark where the work happens, and a single black base line running through both so it reads as one scheme rather than two floors.
