What we walked into
An open living area with an open tread staircase, a wood clad feature wall and built in cabinetry already in place. A room with a lot of warm timber in it, which rules out a cold grey floor.
What we did
Prepared the slab and poured a bronze and pewter metallic with white marbling worked through it, finished matte. The bronze was pulled toward the timber rather than chosen against it.
What made it difficult
Working under an open staircase. The treads are open, so anything that goes on the floor beneath them is visible from above and from the room, and there is no skirting or shadow line to hide a finish against. The pour had to be worked right into the understair without a visible edge.
The result
A warm metallic floor that sits with the timber instead of competing with it. Matte, so it takes the wear of a house with children in it without every mark reading as a scratch in a gloss surface.
