What we walked into

A suite of offices with tile down through most of it and the adhesive left behind in a grid where it had been lifted. Several separate rooms rather than one open floor, a corridor between them, and a restroom that was part of the job.

What we did

Lifted the remaining tile, ground the adhesive grid off every room, repaired the slab, then poured a grey pewter metallic through the whole suite including the corridor and the restroom.

What made it difficult

Adhesive grids. Old tile adhesive sits in a raised lattice where the grout lines were, and if it is not taken back completely the pattern reads through a metallic floor like a ghost. Every room had to be checked in raking light before anything was poured.

The result

One continuous metallic floor through a suite that used to be several different floors. No thresholds between the rooms, and the restroom finished in the same material rather than dropping back to vinyl.
