Polished Concrete – 85 Bakery, Cypress

A thousand square feet of dining floor for 85 Bakery in Cypress, including tearing out the old tile first. Four working days.
| Location | Cypress, CA |
|---|---|
| Surface area | 1,000 sqft |
| Building | Commercial Restaurant |
| Working area | Dining area |
| Duration | 4 Working Days |
| Scope | Floor Demolition and Full Polished Concrete |
What we walked into
Tile coming up off the slab and the thinset left behind in hard trowel ridges across the whole floor – the raised comb lines the tile was bedded into.
What we did
Broke out the remaining tile, then ground the thinset ridges flat before starting on the slab itself. The counters and servery were sheeted in plastic and stayed where they were.
What made it difficult
Thinset ridges have to come off completely before polishing starts, because anything left behind telegraphs straight through the finished surface as a pattern. On a small floor that is most of the labour.
The result
A warm-toned polished floor through the dining area, with the servery and fit-out untouched behind the sheeting.
