What we walked into
A shell at first-fix stage. Plumbing stub-ups stood proud of the slab where the kitchen equipment was going, floor drains were already set, and the concrete carried sweeping tan residue left over from the build.
What we did
Ground the residue out and polished the slab, working around every stub-up and drain by hand. Those penetrations are fixed and fragile, so the machine passes stop short and the last few inches are cut in manually.
What made it difficult
A floor full of pipework is slow. There is no long uninterrupted run anywhere, and each penetration is a separate small edge that has to be finished to the same level as the open floor around it.
The result
A pale, even polished floor across the whole restaurant, with the pipe penetrations left clean and undamaged for the kitchen fit-out that followed.
