What we walked into
An operating restaurant off Hollywood with brick walls, a bar down one side, and a floor that had gone olive and patchy under the traffic a restaurant floor takes. The old surface was a multi-coat build-up that had turned slick, which is why they called us rather than how it looked.
What the client needed
A floor that held up and worked with the brick, with their name set into it at the entrance.
What we did
We tented the room and ground the old coating off, back to bare concrete. The restrooms and the back entrance had damage deep enough that grinding alone would not fix it, so those areas got a polishable self-levelling cement overlay before anything else went down. The stain went down in a deep red. The logo was laid in separately in green and gold and polished flat into the surrounding floor, so it sits in the slab rather than on it.
What made it difficult
The working window. The restaurant kept trading, so we had the floor from 3am to 8am and nothing outside that. Fourteen days on 1,500 square feet is slow until you know it was five hours a night, and every night ended with the space handed back ready for service.
The result
A deep multi-colour polished floor with the restaurant’s name set into it at the door. No coating on top, so nothing to peel where the door traffic lands hardest, and a hard, anti-slip surface in a room where the old one had gone slick.
