What we walked into
A large multi-car garage with glazed doors along one side, built as much for showing cars as for storing them. The slab was new and flat, with the control joints cut in a grid across it.
What we did
Ground the slab down far enough to bring the aggregate up evenly, then polished it to a reflective finish. Going deeper is what gives a garage floor its depth – a light cut would have left it looking like a plain slab.
What made it difficult
A garage this size with glazed doors gets seen from outside as well as in. The aggregate exposure had to stay consistent right across two thousand square feet, because any variation reads immediately when the doors are open.
The result
An exposed-aggregate floor with real depth to it, reflecting the ceiling lights across the full width. No coating, so nothing to peel under tyres or jack stands.
