What we walked into
A dark, heavily stained slab in an older brick building mid-renovation. Steel stud framing was going up around the floor while we worked, and the concrete underneath was blotched almost black in places.
What we did
Cut down through the staining until the slab came up clean and light, then polished it and opened the aggregate. The before-and-after tone change on this one is the whole story – the finished floor is several shades lighter than what we started on.
What made it difficult
Renovation buildings move around you. Framing crews were working the same space, so the floor had to be done in sections that stayed accessible to them, and the finish still had to match across those sections once the whole thing was open again.
The result
A light, aggregate-exposed floor that reads as a deliberate finish against the exposed brick rather than as a slab that was left bare.
