What we walked into
An older building stripped back to its bones – exposed red brick, open ceiling with the sprinkler runs and conduit on show, and a grey slab underneath carrying the marks of everything that had been on it.
What we did
Ground and polished the slab straight through, running the machines on dust extraction because the exposed brick and open services above would have held onto anything airborne.
What made it difficult
Exposed brick is unforgiving about dust. Once it settles into the mortar joints it does not brush out, so containment mattered more here than on a floor surrounded by painted plasterboard.
The result
A warm, reflective floor that sits well against the brick, picking up the light from the openings at either end of the space.
