What we walked into
A finished ADU waiting on its floor. Kitchen cabinetry, sink and laundry were all in, the sliding doors to the garden were glazed, and the slab underneath was patchy with a crack running across one side.
What we did
Polished the slab through the whole unit, cutting in under the cabinet plinths and up to the sliding door track. The crack was left visible rather than filled, because on a floor this size a patched repair would stand out more than the crack does.
What made it difficult
A finished interior means the floor is the last thing in, and everything around it is already damaged if you get it wrong. Cabinet plinths, door tracks and glazing all had to come through untouched.
The result
A warm-toned polished floor running continuously from the kitchen to the garden doors, with no thresholds or transitions anywhere in the unit.
