What we walked into
Twenty-eight hundred square feet of floor at an aircraft mechanical facility in Van Nuys. A working shop floor, with everything that gets spilled on one ground into the slab.
What the client needed
A floor that survives what gets dropped and spilled in an aircraft shop, and cleans without soaking anything in.
What we did
We ground the slab back with dust extraction running throughout, crew in respirators, then coated it once the surface was open enough for the epoxy to key in. In a shop like this the bond matters more than the finish.
What made it difficult
Night shifts, against a schedule that could not move. The build was two coats of epoxy over a vapor barrier and a clear polyurethane gloss on top. Each coat needs its own cure time before the next one goes down, so the sequence sets the pace and there is no compressing it.
The result
A sealed grey floor with no seams for anything to get into. Five days, and a shop floor that can be cleaned properly for the first time.
