What we walked into

An old green floor coating worn through to the concrete along every walking line, with the bare patches spreading out from the machines. Rows of commercial washers and dryers down both walls, all of them plumbed, wired and staying exactly where they were.

What we did

Took the old coating off, ground the slab, and poured a white and silver metallic with blue worked through it. The blue picks up the colour the business already used on its walls and machines rather than being chosen in isolation.

What made it difficult

The machines. Seventeen hundred square feet with fixed equipment down both sides means the floor is really a series of aisles, and every one of them has to be poured, worked and blended into the next while still wet. There is no version of this job where you close the room and pour it in one go.

The result

A floor with genuine movement in it in a building type that almost never gets one. The blue veining runs the length of the aisles and ties the floor to the rest of the fit out.
