What we walked into

A commercial kitchen with the stainless already installed. Prep benches, a three compartment sink, wall mounted equipment and a floor drain in the middle of the room. The slab was bare, stained and carrying adhesive from whatever had been down before.

What we did

Ground the slab back, repaired around the drain, and coated in a light grey solid colour with anti-slip aggregate through it. Coved the coating up the base to meet the tiled walls, and finished it into the drain so water runs where it should.

What made it difficult

Falls. A kitchen floor has to drain, and a coating that is laid flat over a slab that was never quite right will hold water in the low spots. Getting the coating to follow the existing falls to the drain, without building up a lip anywhere, is the part that takes the time.

The result

A seamless grey floor with a coved base and no square corners at the wall. It can be washed down hard, and there is nowhere for water to sit under it.
