What we walked into
A long narrow service bay with a slab that had taken years of vehicle traffic – scoring across the surface, oil shadowing and general discolouration through the middle where the wheels run.
What we did
Ground the slab back past the surface staining and polished it. A workshop floor does not want a mirror; it wants a hard, closed surface that will not soak up the next oil spill, so the finish was taken to a satin sheen rather than pushed for maximum gloss.
What made it difficult
Narrow bays are all edge. With walls close on both sides, most of the floor is within reach of a wall line, so the hand-cut perimeter is a much bigger proportion of the work than it would be on an open floor.
The result
A dense, sealed workshop floor that wipes clean instead of absorbing. Nothing coated, so there is no film to peel where jacks and stands land.
