What we walked into
A thousand square feet of Los Angeles office slab under whatever had been down before. Once it was up the concrete underneath was mottled and stained through, the kind of floor most people assume has to be covered again.
What the client needed
A finished floor for an office fit-out, with the partitions going in behind us.
What we did
We ground it in stages with dust extraction, taking it deep enough to open the aggregate rather than stopping at the surface. Once the stone was showing evenly we ran the grit progression up to a full gloss, densified and sealed.
What made it difficult
Going that deep to get even aggregate is a decision, not an accident. The floor was so old and with so many coats that we decided to grind really aggressive to expose all its beauty.
The result
A high gloss glass looking polished floor with the aggregate showing right through it, bouncing the ceiling lights and the window line back into the room. The slab that was there became the finished floor.
