What we walked into

A dark brown coated floor with yellow safety hatching painted across it, worn through in the traffic lines and patchy everywhere else. Red stage curtains, black walls and the studio fit-out all stayed in place around the work.

What we did

Took the coating off with the grinders and kept going into the slab underneath, then polished it up through the grits. The colour change is visible in the mid-job photos, where the grey concrete meets what was left of the brown coating.

What made it difficult

Coating removal is slower and dirtier than polishing a bare slab, and a working studio is not a forgiving place to make dust. The floor also had to come out consistent across a wide open span with no aisles or fixtures to break the sightline, so any variation in the passes would have shown.

The result

A light grey polished floor across the whole lobby, reflective enough to pick up the stage lighting. The yellow hatching and the brown coating are gone entirely.
